On Monday, November 23, a family overwhelmed with caring for their animals surrendered over 60 rabbits to Animal Humane Society. This puts a heavy burden on the shelter system that was already housing over 40 rabbits waiting to find new homes. Minnesota Companion Rabbit Society has already provided hay and pellets to help feed these new arrivals. Meet the bunnies! Several of these bunnies, and many others currently seeking homes, will be available to meet at an Adoption Event planned for 12/13.
MCRS depends on regular donations to be able to offer our vast array of services to help homeless bunnies in this community. We are currently seeking Sustaining Members - a special program where you sign up to donate a monthly amount (as little as $9/month) which is then automatically transferred each subsequent month. We've set a goal of 100 Sustaining Members by the end of this year and we are far below that goal. Sign up as a Sustaining Member now!
MCRS is offering special rabbit-themed holiday cards again this year. The packs of 12 contain three of each of four different designs along with matching envelopes for just $10. Packs are available from most PETCO stores in the metro area as well as Mankato. All proceeds benefit MCRS directly. Each MCRS supply location will also have a limited number of holiday cards available. Pick yours up now!
Once again, a few clicks daily can help MCRS win up to $21,000 for the bunnies! The process is simple. Go to The Animal Rescue Site. Type "rabbit" in the search box and choose MN for the state, then click Search. MCRS will appear - click the VOTE button next to us and don't forget to identify the animal photo that appears next to confirm your vote.
You can vote everyday of the contest which runs through December 20. If you'd like a daily reminder to vote, contact us and ask to be added to our Daily Vote Reminder list. During the last challenge, we generated enough votes to make Minnesota Companion Rabbit Society #1 in our state, earning $1,000 to help the bunnies! MCRS also finished #22 nationally (of over 11,000 participating shelters) and was the top ranked rabbit-only group nationally.
MCRS is currently looking for volunteers to exercise and socialize adoptable rabbits at the Apple Valley, Maplewood, Maple Grove, and Roseville Petco stores. Each volunteer spends an hour or two weekly letting the rabbits out to romp and play, an important part of their daily activity. Rabbits need exercise and time out of their cage every day in order to play, burn off excess energy, and provide variety. Rabbits who do not get exercise daily can get bored and start acting out.
