May 2005 - Being a Bunny is Hard Work!

Brinco Yawning

Well, everyone who has a rabbt has probably seen it - the elusive and ever-impressive "bunny stretch and yawn". But, how many of us have ever been able to catch it on film? It happens in a matter of seconds, so there is no way to get the camera and snap a shot before it is over. A photographer needs to be poised and ready for action, as was John R, when he captured Brinco and one of the few bunny yawns I've seen on film, with more detail and clarity than any I have ever seen!

When asked about the picture, John said, "I have another picture of him during the same yawning event-- based on the time stamps, it took him over 2 seconds to complete the yawn. But it was 2:00 in the afternoon, so I guess it's understandable that he was tired."

For anyone unfamiliar with Brinco and his girl Cinnamon, they are both MCRS alumni and have been living the good life since being adopted to first-time bunny owners, Jeanne and John, in July of 2004. These two are, quite likely, two of the most photographed buns around and are even the stars (or, should I say, unsuspecting victims...) of their own bunnyblog. By Jeanne's own admission, some of the entries could be found offensive by the sensitive among us, but when taken in the spirit intended, they are a funny read and chronicle the experiences of first-time bunny owners. Check out the "Rabbit Vocab" entry from 4/20/05 for a good laugh.

For more great shots of bunny yawns, including a movie documenting the entire bunny yawning ritual, with vital pre- and post-yawn activity, check out this page devoted to bunny yawns.
