December 2005 - Home for the Holidays
December's photo was sent to us by Stacy L and shows her bunny, Grits, relaxing at home in front of the fire.
Stacy says, "Grits always seems to enjoy warming himself in front of the fire. He's about 9 years old and has been with us for the past 8 years. Thank goodness he's healthy and shows no signs of slowing down. He has us trained really well: whenever he wants attention he does something naughty ... imagine that, it works. We stop watching TV or computing and fuss at him. After learning some rabbit psychology from MCRS, I have finally taken to ... well, giving him something he wants along WITH what he doesn't want :-D Bunnies who do naughty things get picked up! He used to hate being picked up. But, he doesn't struggle or fuss as much as he used to ... which made me realize he probably is getting what he wants -- attention, after all. If only he would hop up onto the couch he'd get so much more attention! But nooo, he just stays on the floor ... in front of the fireplace if it's blazing. Always makes me smile with contentment and tenderness to see him there, so comfy."
We hope this photo of Grits, relaxing at home and just being the pampered and loved house bunny that he is, brings a smile to you too. We wish you and your animal companions a happy and healthy holiday season, and at a time when the shelters are once again overflowing, we also think of those animals still waiting for a house and family to call their own. It is our wish that by this time next year, they too will be home for the holidays.
